"Memories of Childhood" |
Born and raised
in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, I took an interest in art at young age
and not unlike most kids, I loved to color. Once I mastered the art
of staying in the lines (you have to start somewhere) and made my
way through several boxes of Crayola Crayons, I soon found other
mediums that captured my interest. From finger paints and pipe
cleaners to oil pastels and clay, each one had something unique to
offer. Today, my medium of choice is acrylic paint on canvas.
Periodically, I may add fabric or crystals to enhance a
composition. At the end of the day, I am driven by the simple
pleasure of creating something that myself and others can enjoy. |

Over the years, I have
amassed an eclectic portfolio of works originating from first grade
through to the present. Looking back on my creations, I can see how
my skills have evolved. My first 15 minutes of fame, so to speak,
occurred in the fourth grade. A piece of my work was displayed in
the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon as part of a school art
collection. What a thrill!! Since then, I have had various works
in the local newspaper, school yearbook, on the city transit bus
pass, and other locations. My personal favorite location remains to
be on the walls in the homes of family and friends.
To cultivate my artistic
skills, art was a standard class that I took every year throughout
high school. Upon graduation, I was the honored recipient of the
Art and Creativity Award. Rounding out my four year stay at the
University of Saskatchewan, additional art classes such as art
history and painting/related work broadened
the spectrum of my work. Through those classes, I was able to
generate a number of paintings, which today, represents a
large portion of my portfolio.
Obtaining a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1992 and subsequently
working as a resource teacher for several years, I returned to the U
of S to complete a Masters of Education Degree in 2001. Currently I
work as a School Psychologist in Saskatoon. Although my
professional career consumes much of my time, I continuously seek
opportunity to pursue my passion for painting.
The works seen in
My Gallery,
are part of a recently released series “Dancing Ladies”. The series
came to fruition over the course of a year in which thirteen
paintings were created and displayed in Art Au Jus in Saskatoon in
December 2006. A successful opening was made possible by friends
and colleagues alike.
